In 2014 Martine decided to focus on security awareness in healthcare. She believes everybody has the right to have his or her privacy respected. This certainly applies to clients of healthcare institutions, who should feel safe in the first place. With decades of experience in IT consultancy and IT auditing Martine knows what she’s talking about.
What makes her approach special is the fact she uses personas in her training. In marketing, personas are fictional characters created to represent the different users. Using personas improves the design process by easier decision-making. It improves products by connecting to different target audiences; it simplifies communication with principals regarding the security process.
Martine successfully applies her theory to healthcare organizations. Instead of developing content for ‘a nurse’, ‘a doctor’ or ‘a system administrator’, take in mind Christopher, Angela and Michelle. You know all about them: Their demographics and psychographics, like computer skills, security challenges, and of course their style of learning. When you know your topics and personas, by using Martine’s system, designing your security culture campaign will be a piece of cake!
Martine is also founder of the Dutch security awareness community serving both the SANS Securing the Human community in the Netherlands and the Dutch Security Culture Framework User Group as well as any other security awareness pro who wants to be inspired by knowledge sharing colleagues.
